2 people, including a child, seriously injured after dog attack
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman and a child were seriously injured Saturday in a dog attack in Kalihi.
According to Honolulu EMS, an 8-year-old boy and a 44-year-old woman suffered bodily injuries from the dog.
EMS officials said paramedics treated and transported the two victims to area hospitals.
Police are currently investigating what led up to the attack.
Authorities said the boy was playing with a neighbor’s child in the dog owner’s yard when the attack happened. The injured woman was identified as the owner, who was hurt as she tried to stop the attack.
A spokesperson for the Hawaiian Humane Society said the HHS was called to the scene to assist HPD investigators.
The Humane Society said the dog was a terrier mix, described as basically a “big poi dog.” As of Saturday afternoon, the dog was still on the property with the owner.
The spokesperson said the dog must remain contained and may not leave the property until the investigation is over.
