Looking to adopt a furry friend? Oahu gets its second Humane Society location
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Oahu just got its second Hawaiian Humane Society.
The Humane Society’s new West Oahu campus, located on Fort Weaver Road in Ewa Beach, opened on Saturday.
The five-acre property, donated by D.R. Horton Hawaii, features a 27,000-square-foot facility that can hold 450 animals, and will help ease overcrowding at the Moiliili campus.
It also offers veterinary care — and has a recreational park for pets.
Designed by Pacific Asia Design Group in consultation with animal care facility and design architecture experts Animal Arts and constructed by Allied Builders, the Kosasa Family Campus implements innovative design features in accordance with shelter best practices to minimize stress and the risk of disease transmission for the animals in the Humane Society’s care.
These include soft-close kennels, open-air circulation, individual drainage for kennels and play yards, and larger, dedicated spaces for animal enrichment and exercise.
