Flood watch canceled for Kauai and Niihau, but showers still possible
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service has canceled the flood watch that was posted for Kauai and Niihau, but while the threat of flooding has diminished, wetter conditions are still expected into Sunday.
Portions of the Garden Isle were placed under a flash flood warning for a few hours Saturday as an area of heavy rain and thunderstorms pummeled the island.
Hanalei received nearly one and-a-half inches of rain in a six-hour period Saturday. The Mana rain gauge near Barking Sands on the west side of the island recorded 1.34 inches of rain during the same period.
Forecasters still anticipate the chance of heavy rain and some thunderstorms over the state Sunday as an upper disturbance forms over the islands, but for now, widespread flooding is not expected.
