HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - An elderly man died following a crash Monday in Central Oahu.

According to Honolulu police, an 81-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2005 Toyota Pickup. He was heading south on Kamehameha Highway when he crossed the center line and struck the rear of a 2014 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 32-year-old woman.

EMS said the crash was a rollover, and the elderly man was initially hospitalized in critical condition. He died shortly after.

The woman in the Jeep suffered only minor injuries.

The crash, which happened around 12:30 p.m., shutdown the highway in both directions near the Pa’ala’a Uka, Pupukea Road intersection.

Speed, alcohol and drugs don’t appear to be factors in the crash at this time, HPD said.

This mark’s Oahu’s 18th traffic fatality of 2021, compared to 14 this time last year.

The victim has not yet been publicly identified.
